My Blonde Twin?

A friend had just visited Cape Town and stalked this girl because... here, I'll just add the message that came along with the photo.
So I was walking around Cape Town and I saw this one girl who absolutely reminded me of you. She had a long flowy skirt and a really nice tank with it but the kicker was this red scarf she had that just added the color. Yeah, as I was walking down the street I just thought, yeah, this is perfectly Jill.

This totally looks like something I'd wear and be doing... if I were in Cape Town, that is! Haha! When will I ever get the chance to visit, I wonder*?

For those who know me, what do you think? Do you see any resemblance? :)

* Strange coincidence that just last weekend, I met the Consul of the Philippine Embassy from Cape Town. Hmmm!

2012, Year of Courage

I've been putting off some planning for the year -- I know, it's going to be March SOON! -- and it's high time I put my affairs in order.

To kick off the year, Esel suggested I have a theme to guide me. It's settled -- 2012 will be my Year of Courage. Courage to take risks, to leap into the unknown, to be adventurous in terms of traveling, dressing, and way of thinking. It also means I have to exert more effort in loving people that are not so likable; after all, it's a big risk to show care and concern to those who may end up trampling on my fragile heart. (Ouch.)

What do you think? Possible? Man says, "never in a million years would I ever..."

While God says YES! Only by His grace.

How to Wear: A life vest that's too big

I just spent an amazing, breathtaking, wonderful weekend in Donsol and Legaspi with friends Esel, Kim, and others! Not only did we have one blissful interaction with nature after another, we also picked up a lot of nuggets of information, some more memorable than others. I will inject them into my posts over the next few days! For today, I want to share with you how to deal with a life vest that usually comes in one-size-fits-all.

For most Asians -- ladies especially -- the standard life jacket hangs quite loose. The trouble with this is that once you're in the water, it will float up and above your neck and obstruct your vision. For those who don't swim very well, you definitely don't want that concern added while snorkeling or keeping up with the fast butanding or whale shark!

Fortunately, our Butanding Interaction Officer or BIO for the day, Kuya Kits, showed us how to wear a life vest that's too big for you. I learn something new every day! Amazing!

Here is the lovely Chastine with her custom-fit life vest.

How to turn Blah into Oooh!

It's been awhile since my last post; sorry about that! The good news is, there's been a lot going on and I have a lot to share with you in the next few weeks. Wheeeee! Please stay tuned :)

A couple of days ago, I put together a look with two very basic pieces with one very special necklace.

I look so formal, noh? I wore a silk blouse, my navy elephant pants -- soooo roomy, there could be room for you! -- and a gorgeous coral necklace from my friend Charlene I also wore at the start of the year.

Suiting Up

Just a simple post on how to transform a very casual shirt -- an upgraded version of a wife beater (aka sando) actually -- into something that's passable for the office. It depends on where you work though; if you're in banking or consulting, the shirt would be considered too casual and maybe even inappropriate no matter what you do.

I dressed up a lace cotton top with gold chains and a blazer -- the latter one because it was a bit chilly in the morning!

Conservatively Gray

I also love picking dresses that are unique so they are conversation pieces by themselves. Here's one of them I bought during a shopping trip abroad last year.

Working From Home

Remember my ultimate dream -- to work from home (i.e. the beach)? Okay, so let's take it up a notch. I'd like to be as glamorous as THESE ladies while working from home. Meaning, I'm not in my ratty tshirt and shorts. Eep!

I took some inspiration from Garance Dore's photos of Reece Solomon...

...and Lucy Chadwick being productive in their casa.

Seeing these ladies has inspired me to dress up at home when I'm working! Haha. Pretty soon I'll be twirling around in my dresses talking to myself. What a crazy lady! Nahhh, I won't do that ;p

Seriously though, I find dressing properly as though for public viewing sort of puts my "head in order" and forces my brain to think. Now that my desk is clear of junk and clutter, I should do the same with my computer*.

Any organizational tips? What do you do to get into working mode? :)

Photos from Garance Dore.
* Methinks it's easier to buy a new one, what with all my files on my desktop!

Styling Dilemma: Boredom

When you're bored with your current wardrobe pieces and feel like you've worn the same pieces over and over again, why not wear it differently? I read somewhere that "only boring people are bored," so I did something different with this Topshop printed blouse, which is meant to have a peek-a-boo opening down the back. I wore it backwards instead as a cardigan.

Black and navy

Here's a quick post on one of those days when I need to rely on classic, fuss-free pieces for a productive time at the office.

It's the middle of a busy, busy week and since I can't get away to my favorite place -- the beach -- here are some photos from two weekends ago (wow, time flies by so quickly!) that might help drain the work blues away :)

Honestly, nothing refreshes my eyes more than the endless horizon of the sea.

Hearts Day, Part 2

Today, as millions of people celebrate their love for one another, I bask in the love of my Almighty Father, Faithful Provider, Redeemer, and Friend. Isaiah 54:10 assures me of His promise to love me forever -- "For the mountains may move and the hills disappear, but even then my faithful love for you will remain. My covenant of blessing will never be broken," says the Lord, who has mercy on you.

What security and confidence I have in Him, my first, most precious, and forever love! :)

For a single (but not lonely) Valentine's, I channeled the gorgeous Emma Watson!

I discovered this garish glorious fluorescent pink-orange lace top in Forever21 the other day and I couldn't wait to wear it! As part of my personal theme of Courage this year, I'm slowly learning to move away from choosing "safe" colors such as black, navy, beige, and trying out brighter, louder hues.

On this day of hearts, what could be more romantic than blush colors, lace, and pearls?

Happy Valentines Day!

Was sooooo blessed to arrive at the office today with these flowers on my desk! They're from my super-sweet and thoughtful boyfie, Kim. Read her blog at My Life Is A Buffet.

Thanks, hunny! You're the best! :)

Styling Dilemma: Too Long a Belt

I was running late (again!) the other day so I opted for a printed dress, cinched it with a belt, and added dangling earrings. Easy as 1-2-3!

However, like most belts I own, this one reaches halfway across my back when I wear it on my natural waist as I'm quite thin. The belt's about to run out of snaps, so what do I do to make this messy-looking contraption... (The OC in me shudders.)

Look somehow clean and put-together? (And hence suggest that I didn't roll out of bed and into my clothes? Haha.)

Magic? It's easy and you don't need to be a stylist to figure this one out! I just discovered this by rummaging around my work desk!

Brave Baby Step

Feeling a bit adventurous today? Why not wear a tan belt with black heels*?

There seems to be some serious debate as to whether guys can pull this off, but this is another reason to love being a girl! I guess it's not much of a fashion risk as some people are concerned, but it's a baby step for me ;) I try to push my personal boundaries a bit each week.

Who Knows?

I really wasn't sure what I was thinking when I got dressed the morning I wore this...

I just knew it was time I wore a proper shirtdress to connote some sort of professionalism at the office (uh huh, who am I kidding). Then proceeded to dress them down with my very comfortable pair of chinos (like pajamas, I tell you!) and flats (ahhhh my feet thank me). I might as well have gone to work in sweatpants and a gym shirt -- oh wait, I changed into that after work, more on that later.

Style Profile: Chat

One of my colleagues Cathy, or Chat for short, is quite tall and turns guys' heads whenever she walks past. She reminds me of a beauty queen because she has such good posture and a warm smile. She sure turns the ladies' heads too because of her innate style!

I love how relaxed this whole outfit is while being office-appropriate*: Printed tee, cropped slacks, gemstone flats, and some serious-looking eyewear ;) And despite the abundance of color, Chat managed her outfit very well with these guidelines:

1) Choose one piece to be the center of attention -- here, it's her printed shirt.
2) Balance with a "safer" item with interesting details like these black cropped pants.

Errand Day!

My errands have been piling up and since I was tempted beyond human control on staying in bed all day, I needed an extra reason to get out of bed the house: the debut of my new skirt! I was convinced then I would get things done!

Good vs. Better

Last Saturday, I wore comfortable clothing for an hour of browsing in Greenhills Tiangge followed by a delicious dinner nearby. These heels are the best! I decided they'd be more comfortable than some of my flats and they were sandals I could easily slip in and out of, should I try on some shoes ;)

Starting Good Habits

Here's another on-the-go outfit for the week, meaning I had no time to decide what to wear because I was running late yet again! Dumdedum. These rushed mornings are not the picture of poise and grace that I want to be this year. A grunt and a huff and a shriek later, I'm out of the house and in the car.

Two weeks after cleaning my room and making sure I can find what I'm looking for because everything's in its proper place, I'm very pleased and quite proud to say that I was able to maintain this state of orderliness ever since. So it's time to start a NEW good habit! It's time to start getting enough sleep.

Something New/Old: Green Jacket

There's just something about pink-and-green combinations that make me feel refreshed and rejuvenated. Okay, so the last time I dressed in this color combo, I was barely covered for a very relaxed day at the beach... This time, I'm all bundled up for indoor air-conditioned weather.

Crazy for Color

It could be possible that my relationship with color started with Esel's influence. I mean, who else would dare to wear six -- SIX!!! -- different colors all at the same time? I know of only one person, and that would be Esel :)
