Friends in Vintage

Had a quick meet-up with Jacqui the other day and I realized we were both wearing thrift store finds! I had forgotten all about Jacqui's gray electric-pleated skirt until she reminded me she bought it when we were shopping in thrift stores together some few years ago.

The Baby is Now a Lady: Ria

The first year Ria and I worked together, she was dressed professionally in slacks and business-y blouses. Starting late last year though, she has embraced her feminine side and began showing up to our meetings in dresses, skirts, and *gasp* heels! Not that I'm not complaining; she still looks well-dressed, albeit a little friendlier, and I'm sure she gets to charm more clients now... right, Ria? ;)

Black, White, and Tan Surprise

Just doing a quick post today on what I wore last weekend. It was counter-intuitive for me to pair a black-and-white striped shirt with something other than a black cardigan, but I took the plunge and wore my tan jacket. I felt like cringing a bit as the day progressed; I know you can mix neutrals up, but it was the printed top that held me back. Oh well... whether a minor misstep or a major fashion faux pas, every decision leads to a lesson, right? Bonus points if you actually get things right :)

Personal Silhouette: Lynda

Last weekend, I had the wonderful opportunity to spend some time with my fellow Dgroup member Lynda at a retreat. For over a year now, Lynda and I have shared stories on career, style, and the mixing of both, and I'm always impressed by the grace she carries herself with.

There are a couple of things that make Lynda's style so distinct. First is a semi-fitted top that's comfortable yet shows off her curves in a very decent way ;) Second to this are dark, slimming pants.

Like a Lady / Here Comes Spring 2012!

So. Spring 2012 is just around the corner and apparently, the big trend is pastel colors. Fashion slaves, take note:

Acid Yellow, Ruby Red

Look who's caught with a goofy grin at the end of the workday. Haha! I look a bit stiff because one of our managers spied me posing for my outfit-of-the-day shot before he headed home. Okay, now I really prefer to have my photos taken during lunch as there are a lot more manual contract laborers and less office people. Is that better? We shall go for the bigger fan base, yes? ;p Not that they're my target market, but maybe I should consider a shift in strategy... Hmmm.

Target market analysis Kidding aside, today was a pretty lazy-dress-up day for me. Telltale sign 1: The loose blouse. As you can see, I'm still celebrating the Chinese New Year week with a loud, screaming color.

It's a Jungle in Here, Chinese New Year Part 2

I'm so thankful to have been productive just before I headed out for a meeting on Chinese New Year. It was quite warm and sunny so I opted for a sleeveless dress that wasn't too casual. Well, I think it isn't, but then again, my ultimate dream is to wear shorts for work. Hihi.

It's a Jungle in Here, Chinese New Year Part 1

First of all, I'd like to greet everyone Kung Hei Fat Choi!!! I've been abundantly blessed this year and my prayer for all five of my readers is for you to be abundantly blessed as well.

I don't believe in superstition and I don't believe in fortune or luck. So when I told my friends I'd spend the day cleaning my desk, I received more than one shocked reaction because taking out junk on Chinese New Year is believed to "clean out good luck". Well, I reasoned I'd have a much better year and an overflow of opportunities if I could do actual work and meditation on my desk. You'd agree with me too if you had something like this, right?

I can hear the gasps of disgust / horror / disbelief. Yes, the above is my desk and I use it to blog, read, write notes, stack my jewelry, wrap gifts, and stash receipts and other last-minute items I need to take out of my bag. It is the receptacle of everything and anything that I deal with on a day-to-day basis and haven't had time to give it a second look. And although my desk looks very uhh, prosperous in the sense that it's teeming with life, I knew I had to do a complete overhaul. Today being a holiday was the perfect time to do it!

Belting It

For the past three months, it hasn't been uncommon for me to hear this whenever I meet up with friends: "You've gotten even skinnier!" Now, I nor my friends can believe it's possible for me to lose more weight, but it's a sad fact of my life. The more I try to gain weight, the more I lose. I even went on a special metabolic program last year in an attempt to fatten up. Alas, I lost my remaining fats (yes, I had some in a secret place! Haha!) After that episode, I've finally decided to just stress less about being thin as a stick and embrace my shape. Is a line a shape? Yes, says me :)

Color Inspiration: Berries in Yoghurt

Do you ever get dressed in a hurry? I do, more times than I'd like.

This is how I got dressed today. I woke up late -- I have three alarms I shut off before finally getting out of bed -- stumbled into the shower, fell into the dress, and pawed my way through my closet for a cover-up as I felt a slight chill in the weather. Not really happy with the state of my hair, but at least I combed it*!

East Meets West

Remnants of last weekend’s garden wedding lingered in my head as I subconsciously donned this wispy silk and satin dress. Despite the scary swarm of mosquitoes that has descended on our company parking lot, I still bravely (and foolishly) expose my legs. Contrary to the feminist movement and strong, androgynous power-females out there, I actually feel most free in a skirt. I can move around, stretch, and run in a dress, and feel somewhat restricted in slacks or skinny jeans. Am I weird for thinking this way?

Anyway, despite my good intentions to get up early today by setting my alarm 20 minutes earlier, I pressed snooze a couple of times and got out of bed later than usual.

Black and White

...with a pop of orange!

We're back to regular programming after a week of busy wedding preparations and celebration. I had lunch with my cousin in Eastwood the other day, and the wind started to pick up the very second I posed for this photo. We've been having weird weather the past month, but I'm not complaining! It's still a bit cool and I'm enjoying staying outdoors, even if it's just for a few minutes before I head back to the office.

(sisterly) Love Is In The Air!

Who knew a single wedding weekend would turn me into mush like this? I guess I'm still so sentimental about it because it involves one of my dearest friends, Esel. I know this sounds crazy, maybe a little clingy, but I'm still adjusting to her married life* because we've spent so much time together** in the past year, I thought for awhile we were the couple! Hehe. My greetings of peace to her groom Gelo! I promise you now have your bride for keeps :)

Sisters by heart, we're also part of a group we call SOTP, which is short for Sisterhood of the Traveling P****** ;p Guess what the last word is!

With one of us just married and another to get hitched in October, there are quite a few milestones in our lives this year. Our friendship remains constant and strong because and in spite of changes, and for this I am grateful.

Anyway, enough cheesiness and on to more trivial topics, like my outfit!

Gelo and Esel's Hacienda

While most of my posts talk about personal style in terms of clothing, I'd like to show how one's wedding reception can speak volumes about one's personal style and personality.

Hacienda Isabella is easily one of the loveliest wedding locations I now know of. We arrived in the afternoon before the wedding day, and anyone who knows the bride know this was a perfect choice. Esel, in her dad's words, is "weird and non-traditional" to have chosen an out-of-town venue that's the antithesis of a grand hotel ballroom. Owned and designed by singer Kuh Ledesma, the hacienda has a distressed, old-world feel with a new discovery waiting to surprise you in every corner.

The variety of flowers and plants lent a very calming aura to what would be a high-pressure weekend. I don't think the most grandiose chandelier can ever compare to God's handiwork :) That, and the couple is quite low-key as well.

Here Comes the Bride(smaid)zilla!

Our bride Esel was the most organized and calmest bride I've ever seen. And because she wasn't at all a Bride-zilla (you know, the bride-turned-monster due to the heavy pressure of planning a wedding), there was much teasing among the bridesmaids and the bride as to whether there were bridesmaid-zillas.

Everyone in the bride's entourage was so detail-oriented and hardworking, we couldn't decide! Personally speaking, I humbly concede to my RSVP partner, Chastine. I mean, she printed everything that needed to be printed, and she brought COLORED TABS to separate the pages, a highlighter, and a stapler, which was so handy for sewing! I think the clincher was the clipboard, which we both were a bit embarrassed to use because it'd make us look quite... professional. Hahaha! Seriously though, I enjoyed working with Chastine so much!

We first met at Esel's bridal shower/ birthday party last December, when we practically wore the same thing. Great minds think alike!

Before the BIG Day

Whew. We just got back from Tagaytay where we spent an awesome wedding weekend!

We've all heard of brides gone crazy and wild with rage and frustration under the sheer pressure of planning a wedding. We-eeeell, in this case, the bride was quite relaxed and chill. Esel is one of the most organized and hardworking people I know, so I shouldn't be surprised that everything was under control for her wedding.

On Saturday, the day before her Big Day, Esel and a couple of her friends trooped to the Nail Spa, which lent us a zen-like state in the midst of the madness. I really thank God we had this 3-hour escape to just REST and zone out and listen to Kim's dating stories. Hahaha! She kept us entertained and was so exhausted -- I think more from her dating decisions than the actual storytelling -- that she fell asleep :) That's Kim in the corner of the photo and bride-to-be Esel up front, answering her fiance's questions on the wedding preps.

No Brainer

This whole week I've been scatterbrained and distracted with so many projects and deadlines, both personal and professional. I decided to take a leave from work in the afternoon just so I could give my brain a little rest as well as meet up with a viral marketer and pick up my gown for my best friend's wedding on Sunday. The bride and a couple of us bridesmaids are leaving town on Saturday so there's no time to waste!

Shoe Story: Run With Me

There's a misconception that girls can't run in heels. That's not true! People who say that probably have never tried these uber comfy, lightweight heels from Parisian that I first wore here.

Why is it so important for me to have this pair when I have racks of others? We-eeell, these ones are actually on my list, because they're tan sandals, a wardrobe staple. Major plus points because they allow me to get work done faster, easier, and in style. Like most other women who reason out the need for purchases, I can list dozens of reasons when I want "need" something... Especially now with this blog, I sometimes have the tendency to look for new pieces to feature.

Dressing for Stamina

I'm sorry for the lousy quality and location of this photo, but I wanted to take a quick snapshot, a memento for myself on how much FUN it can be when I decide, after hours of analysis and twenty thirty forty minutes of lying on my bed, tempted as I was to just stay there for the rest of the night, to finally get up, get dressed, and get out the door.

Khaki is the color of charity

I played around with a color palette that's a little uncommon for me, as I hardly wear khakis. I've been meaning to find a pair that fits, and I'm so blessed that it found me! ;) My cousin Noreen, while cleaning out her closet, saw this pair and thought I'd make a good recipient. Of course, being the hoarder that I am was*, I happily accepted.

Rawr! Mixing Browns

You might be wondering by now, dear readers, who has been faithfully taking most of my outfit photos; it's my colleague Ivy. I hardly ever take snack breaks, so she spares a little time during lunch to efficiently take a few shots of my look of the day.

The first thing I asked her that morning was "is your blouse new?" It was! I'm a sucker for animal print, but I couldn't stop looking at this one because the hues were so vibrant, even from a distance. I loved her outfit so much that I asked for us to trade places for a day with me as photographer.

Coral Candy

For the first day of work for 2012, I decided to be a little more corporate and put on this classic brown shirt dress I bought way back in 2007. At the time, I was assigned in a little town called Petaluma, California and had gone to the nearest Target to while the weekend away. Albeit a little easy to wrinkle, the dress remains a staple to this day. I matched it with a black bag and black pumps.

Summer Blooms

I'm aware that it's months away from summer, but I was so excited for our holiday trip to the beach that I had started dressing in warm-weather clothing a few days in advance. (Little did I know it would be chilly!)

Day to Night: Color

For the last holiday of 2011, I spent the whole day uncharacteristically out of the house. Booked separately as personal shopper for my aunt and my brother, then a meeting before heading out to dinner, I chose an outfit that wouldn't betray the true hermit mood I was in ;p What better way to infuse some energy than with pops of color?

For "work", i.e. shopping, I donned my color block blouse paired with white shorts -- the better to enjoy my new tan before my legs are soon shrouded in corporate wear -- black flats, and another burst of color via a chunky necklace. I took the first photo at one of Zara's fitting rooms while waiting for my brother to try out some shirts.

Then before heading out for a birthday dinner, I simply changed into a casual red shirt and black pumps. The necklace and footwear definitely made my whole outfit look dressier! Without them, I could have been dressed for the beach ;)

To my readers out there, you may be few but I feel your love and encouragement. Thank you for being with me on this journey. Love you! :)
