Birthday Pink!

Today's my birthday, hooray! What better way to spend it than go to the office?

Hahaha...  Sarcasm aside, I can't remember the last time I went on leave on the day of my actual birthday. I don't think I've ever not gone to work, unless the public holiday was moved to my birthday. But I don't mind working on my birthday, since it usually comes after a long weekend. This year, it followed a FOUR-day weekend! :)

I decided on a blouse that would brighten up what would be a quick day at the office.

Behind Bars

Really, when my mom bought me this top, I felt like I belonged in an old-time jail cell. But I leapt at the chance to wear it as fashionably as possible. This look is called criminal chic ;)

Now that I look back at this outfit, I'd like to think this is what I'd bring if I ever had the chance to go to Paris. Hmmm, it's alright to dream, isn't it?

I was pleasantly surprised to see the illusion of curves I had in the above photo. All a product of pleating, stripes, and proper angling for the camera. Hihi.

Animal Print Once More

Woohoooo! Thanks to my awesome parents who invited me along, I spent the long weekend (well, after my Saturday class anyway) in Hong Kong.

The weather forecast showed Hong Kong to be rainy with temperatures from 29 to 32 degrees Celsius. Expecting it to be more humid than Manila, I packed some light clothing and what I've been longing to wear for over two months -- SHORTS! :)

I enjoyed striding through the streets of Hong Kong in a summery outfit, especially when I spotted people rushing by in work attire. Hooray for long weekends!

Princesses in Red

I can openly admit that out of nine female cousins, I am probably the most fond of dressing up. In one word, kikay.

Here I am with Princess Caitlyn, my niece from my cousin during my grandma and her great-grandmother's 99th birthday celebration (hence the Chinese red outfits) last Saturday.

Kikayness spans generations, as you can tell from this photo! This little girl looooooves being a princess and wearing dresses and having her photo taken. I can't wait to take her shopping in a few years ;)

Ferocious!

It's been awhile since my last post... it's been really crazy the past few days, but GOOD crazy!

Here's a look back at Monday's outfit. I wanted to look stronger than what I was feeling, so I combined three fierce elements:
  - snake print blouse in vibrant purple
  - leopard print belt with gold rings
  - ruby red toenails

Had a lovely, lovely lunch out -- a first and maybe an only one on the first day of the week, no less! -- with my cousins who wanted to try this place in Fort.

Polka Dots, Take 2

Remember the navy and white polka dot dress I wore last week?

I had the chance to make do on my promise to wear this polka-dot dress in its original sack-like glory sooner than I thought!

Work and Shop

From today's title, you might be wondering if I'm working AT ALL. Well, today being Quezon City day, (a holiday ignored by our company although managers are allowed to take a leave,) I made a compromise between conscience and burn-out -- I went in for some meetings and a bit of work then took the afternoon off for some window shopping!

pink ring from Firma, silver shirt from Topshop, purple cardi from Hongkong
Nothing too formal as today's Friday! Yippee! :)

Celebrating One Month!

Here's to one month of God's graciousness as He keeps pumping me with creativity and enough things to wear! He has been so good to me by sending people who's been so encouraging about this blog. And I've also witnessed His mighty healing hand as my rash has been slowly disappearing, and traces of its existence* is almost gone :) So many blessings in one month!

To commemorate the circumstance with which I started this blog, I've decided to bring back... the high neck!

The Feminine Monk (or How NOT to Look Like a Monk)

I can't help but think of a monk when I see this pink blouse I purchased last year in Adora.

With its high-necked rounded collar and loose sleeves that reach below the elbows, the wearer has the potential to look like this:

But given my penchant for weird (and loose) pieces, I bought it anyway, knowing I'll be able to do a lot with it. Here's my first look.

Bug Bites

What do I wear to Mancom Monday -- the longest and busiest day of the month? I made the decision easily this morning, partly out of habit, but also because I was running late and didn't have the time to dillydally between looks. Hence the ho-hum pairing of a basic pinstripe button-down and my very reliable cigarette slacks.

Are you as bored as I am by the above image? Zzzzzzz... Before we all drift to dreamland, let me share with you a little something that spiced up my day*.

Farewell, Peeptoe Heeled Brogues

The people who are close to me know I have a hard time letting go, especially when it comes to my shoes. (Shoes = love) But in the past few years, I've learned to say goodbye to them, after new soles have been stitched back on, heel caps replaced, walls reinforced, etc. etc. Yes, when I really love a pair, I'd do anything to keep it, prolong its life.

Unfortunately, there are some things that I can't get fixed, like peeled PU material. Huhuhu. This is what I get for not airing them out frequently.

Yes, I admit it, I didn't take them out too often. They probably got depressed and decided to shrivel up in the humidity. Here's one last moment of them basking in the daylight...

Classics

I'm definitely blessed to be slim. My broad shoulders can be a problem, especially when squeezing into structured corporate blouses, but this is one time I'm glad to have them, because I get to wear this cute halter top! I found this one Sunday afternoon in Novato when I was stationed there for work in 2007.

So the rule I've been adhering to so far about halter tops is to have little or no accessories. Then, I spotted this necklace* I've had since high school. (What can I say, I'm a pack rat!**) So I wondered if this would work on a print...

What do you think? :)

Feathers!

I stepped out in Mother Nature's signature color today -- green! This feather belt perked me up after a late night's sleep :)

Print Cocktail

Hooray for Fridays!!! Went loco today with a mix of three prints, all with different themes. Hmmm, let's see. One's floral, another's geometric sixties, and then a snake print!
Funny how something as left-brained as organization and OC-ness fuel my right-brain, huh? :)

Bibs Aren't Just for Babies

I've had bib necklaces on my shop-for list for a few months now, but I've never found one that perfectly married aesthetic and value-for-money... until yesterday. Love cheap thrills! :)

It doesn't look like much by itself but when paired with the right blouse...

Off to the Market!

My earliest memory of going to the market was going to the Farmers Market with my dad, and there'd be these lady vendors loudly calling out their wares for the day, quickly stuffing money into their aprons. So when I found this beautiful Japanese printed one in a vintage store*, I couldn't pass it up. I knew I'd get a lot of use out of it on errand days like these.

Style Profile: Sharon

God is soooo good! I wasn't able to take a full shot of my look today, and I was wondering what to post. I still didn't have a clue and went to our usual Tuesday D-group tonight. Then along came style star Sharon, who was so chic as usual! :) Here's a peek at what she wore tonight.

She says she just dug up an old belt to complete her outfit.

Monochromatic Monday

It's been an amazing three weeks into this blog, and I'd like to introduce something I haven't tried since: Monochrome!

One Dress, Two Ways

One of my favorite parts about dressing is wearing one piece several ways. Today's main piece is a floral maxi-dress my mom bought for me years ago but I've only worn now, hence the Something new tag. I almost got rid of this in a clothes sale but luckily, my friend stopped me and said it looks cute. Sometimes, a piece just needs to grow on me :)

Wore both outfits with these tan sandals from Nine West (my absolute faaaaavorite shoe store).

So Basic

Here I go again with my very comfortable tops! Love, love, love this long-sleeved shirt my mom brought back for me from Australia.

I can sleep and live in it for weeks! It makes me want to hug myself! It's so soft! :)

Style Profiles: Mira and Abby

Had dinner with my good friends Mira and Abby yesterday. It's always a joy to see them and I look forward to our animated discussions... and dissecting they're wearing, of course ;p

They differ so much in style but both are equally stylish. Don't you agree?

Oh, Sand and the Sea, I Miss Thee

It's been a few months since I've last been to the beach, and just the sight of it melts all my worries and stress away. The ocean is the calmest, most peaceful place I know, and I wanted to bring those elements to influence my aura today. Hmmmmm... feel better already :)

Just a Bit Girly

Does this look like something sweet and spice and everything nice? I wanted to balance the pink-and-white combo with black pieces to keep the look from being overly saccharine.

It doesn't feel like I'm in Manila today...

It was 24 degrees when I woke up today, and being thin-skinned, I opted for a long-sleeved black turtleneck. I know people will find it weird (especially as some of my colleagues came in t-shirts today), but I felt really cold the whole day!

Leg Room

Embracing the colors of the earth today...

olive green Mango knit, Topshop belt, Topshop pants
Normally, I'd wear this top with something more safe, like black.
